Friday the 23rd May Aotearoa celebrated PINK SHIRT DAY.  PSD was started in Canada in 2007 by a teacher who was upset when he saw a boy severly bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school.  He along with all the 9th Grade students decided to wear pink shirts and take a stand against the bullies in their school. In 2009 the movement was adopted in NZ. 

This year we decide to spread the Anti Bully message to our Te Puke community.  We had awesome support from the retailers who dressed their windows, the local primary schools who allowed us a chance to talk to their tamariki and  the general public who took our promo packs and wore their Pink Shirt Day stickers with pride.
Karena and Kasey Bird was fantastic ambasadors and they did a awesome job being great Anti Bully rolemodels for our tamariki and stuuning judges for our window display competition.  Thanks ladies you are both TOO MUCH!  
For us Pink Shirt Day is about staring conversations around bullying.  The more it is talked about the better. Remember wear your invisible pink shirt every day.

Moving on! Team Building

Friday the 2nd May we farewelled Adrienne Reid, Raven Walker and Delwyn Koce.

 

They have all been a huge part of the team at Maketu Health & Social Services. We wish them all the very best for their future endeavours.  All will be extremely missed and we thank them all for their contributions to the Hauora and community.  

 

Good Luck Adrienne on your Travels .Have fun being a Mum Raven - enjoy your babies. Delwyn you will do well in you sewing venture - Good Luck to you all. Along with these three Moki Thomas will be going to completed a work placement with the Correction Dept for a couple of months we wait with bated breath for his return. 

To make sure our departing ones left with some awesome memories we enjoyed a Team Building day.  Dressed to suit the occasions of course.  Full of Spirit we all were.  We attended Ohara’s Outdoor adventures. Gaining many new skills. Working as a groups we were put through the paces of Target practises, Dart Blowing, Throwing of the stars along with archery.  Some found these exercises very challenging.  Then it was off for a well deserved soak at Soda Springs which was follwed by a delicious dinner in Rotorua.  Good luck ladies, all the best for the future.

M.A.C Maketu Autumn Carnival

 Fantastic Afternoon in Maketu

After much planning, painting, constructing and setting up the Maketu Autumn Carnival was ready to roll. 
The Maketu Park was filled with fun and laughter.  Old School carnival games drew a large crowd of all ages.  Sponge throw, baby races, ring toss, giant jenga, candy floss, toffee apples and face painting were a just a few of the free activities and treats avaliable.  Awesome support was given by other community groups. The Maketu Fire Brigade, Rotary Club, Surf Club, Maketu School and the Projects team all pitched in and made the afternoon a great success. Planning for next years carnival is in the pipeline, which no doubt will be bigger and better.
